Lot 50: Civil War Smith Carbine

Civil War Smith Carbine, Manufactured by American Machine Works, Springfield, MA, .50 cal percussion breech loader cavalry carbine, serial # 354, 21.625 barrel, made between 1861 and 1865, issued to 3rd West Virginia, 7th and 11th Illinois, 1st Connecticut, 7th and 17th Pennsylvania, 6th and 9th Ohio and 1st Massachusetts Cavalry regiments. Very good condition with one unreadable cartouche on left side of stock. Saddle bar and ring for mounted use, traces of case colors on receiver, barrel is pewter color with light spotting, bright shiny bore with sharp rifling, NOTE: action will not release when opening tang is pushed up.
