Baker Gun Company Batavia Leader 12 Gauge Side By Side Shotgun in Excellent Condition, The Baker Gun & Forging Company manufactured excellent quality side by side shotguns from 1887 to 1919 in Syracuse and Batavia, New York. In 1919, the company was sold to the H. D. Folsom Company of Norwich, Connecticut who continued to make Baker guns until 1930. Baker guns were all well made, from simple field grades such as this Leader,to very high grade, highly embellished pieces such as the Deluxe grade. Our example is in wonderful condition and appears to have seen little use. It has 28 inch barrels with bright, shiny bores and a third fastener. Blue is about 90% with 2 3/4 inch chambers and full and modified chokes. Serial number is 2778F. The barrels are tight on the face with no movement at all. This is a true sidelock and the receiver retains absolutely spectacular color case hardening colors with milky blues, browns and tans over the entire surface. Just a very few scratches on the surface of the wood with nicely checkered wrist and forend. Collectors are exhibiting more and more interest in Baker guns and they now consider them equivalent to the American greats: Parker, L. C. Smith and Fox.
