Cecil King Wungi (Papua New Guinea, 1952-1984), Large Original Illustration, color marker pen, framed and matted, signed lower right. 23" x 31", matted and framed to 30" x 39". Wungi is well known as a prolific and visionary printmaker, but few of his original works appear on the market.
According to the National Gallery of Australia's Centre for Australian Art: "Cecil King Wungi was born in 1952 in Bundi Village in Madang Province. In 1976 he was awarded a three year scholarship to the National Arts School, in Papua New Guinea. Five exhibitions of his work were held there between 1978 and 1982. Wungi worked in his own distinctive style in the non-traditional media of screenprinting, depicting his inner world rather than his external environment and presenting personal stories and reflections that related to the traditional myths and stories of his village. He died in 1984.â€
