Abbot Handerson Thayer, NY, NH (1849-1921), Oil on canvas painting of a "Hunter in the Woods" with his pointer dog signed lower right "AH Thayer, 1875", 32" x 24"; original molded and gilded six inch wide frame, painting was cleaned and lined with a new stretcher about 30 years ago. Exhibited: Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse NY, 9/17- 11/7/82 (see label on reverse), descended in Barry Faulkner's estate, then by his descent until now. Family History: They believe this to be a portrait of Thayer himself, he was a strong supporter of saving Mount Monadnock from development and a founder of the Society for the Preservation of NH Forests and worked the science of camouflage.
