Ulysses S. Grant North American Peace Medal, A 2 1/2" diameter bronze medal with his bust on one side and a view of the world on the other, dated 1871 and stamped "EH. Day #2", has a hole punched in the top edge to receive a beaded North American necklace of cranberry colored beads, approximately 30" long, the side strands have ten bear claws each strung in between the beads. George E.H. Day wrote a letter to Abraham Lincoln in 1862 reporting the fraud perpetuated by Indian traders and government officials, a copy of which is available- this medal was given to the North American obviously after 1871.
