Augustus Frederich Shaine, England (1820-1840) Attributed, Oil on canvas painting of the ship "HMS Harrier" C1840 firing a canon outside a fort, a handwritten note is attached to the back of the painting written by his niece identifying the ship and artist, 18" x 27" in an old molded gilt frame, the painting appears to have been slightly larger originally, a "Winsor & Newton" canvas stamp on the back. The note on the reverse reads, "Augustus Frederic Shaine Midshipman R.N. third son of George Augustus Shaine & Ann (nei Erault?) his wife of Shavefield Havant in the country of Hampshires born at Havant 17th November 1820. Entered R.N. in September 1835 on board the "Harrier" - William Hallowel Careir(?) Esque in command (capt) and died of consumption in the Royal Navy Hospital Malta on October (?) 23rd 1840 aged 20 years.
