Andrea Sacchi, Italian (1599-1661) Attributed, Oil on canvas painting of St. Filippo Neri (1515-1595) known as apostle of Rome, standing in a red and gold robe gesturing with his hands with cherubs above and a young boy peering from behind, unsigned, 104" x 46 1/2" including the frame which appears to have been added in 18th/19thC probably down when the canvas was lined, now with paint losses and some restoration. Provenance: A NH collector, estate of Harold Osgood Whitney who had a home in Watertown Mass, "The Elms" and a palace in Rome, a Fogg Art Museum loan label on reverse #2775, it was there January 5th-30th 1933 and at that time the painting was attributed to Andrea Sacchi.
