Near Excellent C. Roby, Chelmsford, Mass. Staff and Field Officer's Sword and Scabbard. According to the consignor, this sword belonged to a civil war officer named Henry Harrison Snively (or Sniveley). His initials "HS" are etched on the blade together with an American eagle motif, a panoply of banners and floral scrollwork. Blade is excellent and is etched "C. Roby & Co./W. Chelmsford, Mass." Brass guard has a pommel in the phrygian helmet design and the half guard is pierced with scroll and floral motifs. Shark skin grip and wire wrapping are intact. Brass and leather scabbard is marked "C. Roby & Co./W. Chelmsford, Mass." one place on leather above the drag is folding and is very fragile. Ca: 1860, blade ln:32", loa:37".
