Exceptional Battle Used English Plug Bayonet Ca: 1700 With Crown Mark On Both Sides Of Blade. These bayonets were jammed into the barrels of muzzleloaders before the socket bayonet was invented about 1730. Identical example shown on page 279 of "Battle Weapons Of The American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. Neumann states that the crown mark was actually that of Solingan and was forged by British armorers to show the quality of the blade. Dimensions about match those in Neumann's book. Gun powder stains on the wood grip. Brass pommel and guard. Sharp blade has slight nicks such as would occur in battle. These were used in the American Revolution. About as good as they get. Blade Ln: 11.5". Loa: 18".
