Millet Company, Boston and Tokyo, 1902. This is the complete limited twelve volume Artist's Edition set with Volumes 1-8 on Japan, Vols. 9-12 on China. Limited to 500 copies with this set numbered 47. Color frontis to each volume, and color and black and white photos with tissue Guards and numerous black and white plates and drawings. Large color fold out map of Japan at end of Volume VI, and large foldout map of China at end of Volume XII. Three Quarter Morocco Leather over gilt and green patterned boards. Raised bands with spine titles and decorations in gilt. Top edge gilt with deckled front and bottom edges. Decorated endpapers. Bookplate to each volume. Otherwise a very good clean set. Brinkley [1841-1912] spent 40 years in Japan and he owned and edited the Japan Mail Newspaper which was a widely read newspaper in the Far East, and he had a deep interest in Japanese Art and literature.
