A Superb Haida or Tlingit Pipe Bowl. The carved pipe bowl of desiccated wood in the form of a splayed quadruped of classical form, possibly a bear with metal tube inserted into the back, Behind this, a bird, possibly a Raven with stylized wings and facing towards the rear, with beak-tip won away, above smaller zoomorphs emerging at either side, possibly otters or young bears, The whole resting atop four fully carved human figures carved beneath, with arms and legs tucked in. Remains of darker encrustation and possibly pigment residue, minor damage from wear and age. Likely 19th Century or earlier. 5 1/2" l X 4" t X 3 1/2" w
