An Austral Islands Carved Paddle, Austral Islands, Polynesia. L. 43", W. 12 1/2". Elaborately carved with long slender handle with know in the form of eight stylized figures, the broad blade carved with intricate circular and linear geometric designs. The blade had been broken in half along along the spine, and has been restored. Small area where the blade meets the handle deficient.
