Two Kwoma Washkuk Palm panels, Kwoma Washkuk; Papua New Guinea
The panels painted on palm spathes in native pigments of black, red, yellow and white, one with a face and linear patterns coming from the top of the head, the other with three circular designs with cruciform patterns inside. Panels of this type were used to decorate the inside interior of men's houses among the Washkuk and other peoples. The designs are often totemic, but can be highly personal in nature.
