A fine Cross-River dance mask, Cross River Area; Nigeria
The mask with menacing expression, the whole covered with a thick black paint over an earlier surface; the face with scarification running across and down the forehead as well as at the temples, the eyes open and alert, the nose naturalistically carved, the mouth with bared teeth. Pierced about the perimeter for attachment of a cloth costume. Very expressive and powerful. H. 13"
