A Lwena dance mask. Lwena (Lovale) people, Angola and Zambia. H: 14". The mask of classical form, the coif high and in bun-like form atop the head, the face with scarification at the forehead and huge ocular orbits, the nose small and upturned, the mouth opened and with barred teeth. Reddish patina and traces of red paint to the surface. Property of a West Coast private collector.
