A Kuba Bwoom helmet mask. Kuba-Bushoong, DR Congo. H: 14". Of classical form, the mask with large bulging brow, the forehead covered in sheet copper and with beads inset in three rows, the eyes a thin beaded band, another beaded band of patterned beads to the large nose, the mouth also covered in copper. The perimeter with dangling seed pods. The whole with cross-hatched design. A fine old example. On a custom base. Ex. Gelbard Collection, NY. Exhibited: Art of the Kuba – Governor’s State University, IL. December 2008.
