A fine Suku helmet mask. Suku people, DR Congo. H: 16" (excluding attachments). Of classical form, the mask with whited face, and large eyes with heavy lids, the cheeks with remains of blue pigment in linear patterns, the mouth open displaying teeth. Atop the head the remains of a figure. The perimeter pierced and attachment to a fiber ruff. Damage to one eye and areas of unusual white painting to either side of the head. This lot was examined and deemed authentic by Arthur P. Bourgeois, expert on the Yaka and Suku.
