A Powerful Guere or We mask Guere/Kran or We speaking people, Ivory Coast. H: 14" The mask with high heavy brow with cowrie shell band, the brow and the eye orbits filled with a mass of goat horns projecting outward and the surface covered with a strong reddish pigment covering the eyes carved as rising rounded forms from the mask. The nose wide and aggressive but flattened above a piece of old hide probably once covered with hair, the mouth open revealing metal teeth. The chin with three old brass bells. The sides of the mask with attachments of fur. A powerful and aggressive example – spectacular. On a custom base. Ex. Ehrlich collection, NY prior to 1998
