Lot 191: A Kulango or Ashanti spoon Kulango

A Kulango or Ashanti spoon Kulango, Ivory Coast or Ashanti, Ghana H:11" The spoon of classical anthropomorphic form; these spoons have historically been attributed to the Kulango, however, recently, Bruno Claessens has revisited the attribution of these spoons to the Kulango and it is more likely that they indeed are of Ashanti origin. The current example is a fine and well-used piece which has been cleaned and polished in the West. On a custom base that does not pierce the piece. Ex.
