Lot 289: Lot of Seven Martinet Bird Plates

Lot of Seven Martinet Bird Plates, from the fine hand colored etchings by, F.N. Martinet, prepared under the direction of, E.L. Daubenton at the instigation of Buffon. The plates were issued between 1765-1793 and were intended to illustrate Buffon's, "Histoire Naturelle Generale." Includes plate #262," Toucan," plate #442 "Chathuant de Cayenne", #441, "La Hulote, #436 "Le Petit Duc, 1769, #35, "Mascarinj, #141 Pigeon Roux de Cayenne & Pigeon de la Martinique 9" x 8" sight and two are 10 1/2" x 8 3/4" sight. All framed and matted under glass.
