Japanese Lacquer Suzuri-Bako (writing box), decorated with raised gold and black decoration with Shisa (guardian dog). The interior decorated with bird & floral decoration.. It contains a suzuri (ink stone) and a suiteki (water dropper) made of brass. 9" x 8 1/2", some wear to surface and cracks to lacquer. Provenance: The estate collection of Dr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Thomas Evans, Jaffrey, NH, purchased at Sotheby's in the 1960's or 70's.
