A Fine Wooden Dance Mask of a Wrathful Deity, Nepal or Bhutan, Late 19th or Early 20th Century, the mask powerfully carved in wood, representing one of the wrathful Tantric deity- protectors of the faith, or possibly a demon from the Cham New Year festival; with rounded forehead, bulging eyes, short nose pulled up in anger, with open mouth displaying fangs. Remains of numerous layers of pigment, mostly green over yellow with traces of blue in the eyes. Fine interior patina with old label from 'Les Primitifs' Gallery, and Nepalese Antiquities Department seal. On an ill-fitting custom stand.
