US Model 1858 Civil War Period Forage Cap, fine weave dark blue wool forage cap with tarred and patent leather - thin 2mm leather brim, stiff leather or card-board supporting its crown, which is adorned with a brass "H" and a light blue diamond shaped wool or felt patch sewn in its center framing a pressed tin numeral "12". Chin strap appears original and is fastened to the cap with 2 x 15mm brace eagle buttons. Interior of the cap is lined with a dark green cloth. The sweat band is a tanned leather with a natural covered burlap lining. See photos for condition.
