The "Flag of Truce" Letter Request of the 9th Louisiana Battalion to a Colonel in the Union Army date, "Dec. 3rd, 1863," for the passage of blankets, clothing and other articles to be delivered without incident. This letter follows the single longest engagement of the Civil War ending July 9, 1863, with the Union then holding the whole of the Mississippi River.
