Turkish Ottoman Shamshir Sword, Damascus steel blade forged from "Sham," steel in a subtle low contrast pattern. Rhinoceros horn hand grip. Grip strap, cross guard and all fittings on scabbard are gilded silver with chased decoration. All mounts are silver proof marked with the Tughra, the ruling sultan cartouche. Right side of scabbard is inset with its original classical silver bullion cording. Cufic inscription on left side of the blade has been carefully filed off.
