H H Bancroft & Co. / American Publishing Co., San Francisco / Hartford, 1869. Leather binding, no jacket, boards loose and first gathering with several loose blank pages. An account of Twain's travels to the Holy Land, compiled for Alta California Newspaper. 234 illustrations throughout. Boards and spine leather detached but present. Some foxing and wear throughout but otherwise good condition. Prov: According to pencil inscription of front board, this volume was purchased in 1869 by Amelia K. Elliot of Erie, PA, who writes "How we laughed at the amusing descriptions--we thought nothing could be funnier. I was 15 years old then"
