Lot 53: Model 1795 Springfield Flintlock Musket Type I

Model 1795 Springfield Flintlock Musket Type I, (This was the first mass produced martial arm manufactured by a US National armory), made in 1806, 44" smooth bore barrel, with crusted bore, ,69 cal "P", eagle head, "V" stamped at breech. Lock plate is marked US in script with remains of eagle below. "Springfield" marked in an arc behind the hammer, as well as 1806; this date also appears on butt plate, sling swivels are missing, correct rimrod is present. Stable crack running between rear or top tang and rear of lock plate. Otherwise wood is in excellent condition for a martial arm of this age.
