Mallard Drake By George Soule, Freeport, Maine. For many years, George Soule made cork decoys for L. L. Bean in Freeport. He was a frequent waterfowl hunting partner of L.L. himself. Soule made his first one from the cork insulation of a refrigerator truck. This mallard is for display, finely carved unlike the cork ones. It is signed by him on the bottom and a red plastic tape that says: “B.D.O. 1971 Champâ€. B.D.O. was undoubtedly a decoy carving competition. Original paint and glass eyes. Length: 14â€.
