Springfield Model 1795 Type II Flintlock Musket. The Model 1795 was the United States’ first musket manufactured by an American armory, there being two, one at Springfield and the other at Harper’s Ferry. Its design was largely taken from the French model 1763. Piece has been lightly cleaned but is in excellent condition. Original flintlock with removable flash pan, thus a Type II. Lock is marked “US†in front of hammer but the eagle marking has been intentionally but neatly removed so it is only slightly visible. Rear of lock is marked “Springfield†in an arch and “1806â€. Tang of butt plate also marked 1806. Barrel has V, Eagle and P inspection marks. All furniture is iron. Lock functions correctly. Wood has a few dings, several completely stable hairlines and a “W†carved into it at the time of use. Trumpet headed rammer. Sling attachments are missing. Length overall: 59â€. Barrel length: 44â€. Bore diameter: .69â€.
