A Songye Kifwebe mask. Songye people, DR Congo. H: 12 1/2". The small mask, with wide and bold white and black bands; the nose forming a sagittal keel atop the head, the mouth open and smiling; the white probably repainted on the piece more recently, but likely traditional, good old wear. A small example possibly used as wall hanging in the ceremonial house. On a custom base. Ex. New York private collection.
