Lega Ivory Male Figure with arms at his side, concave heart shaped face with coffee bean shaped eyes, carved with circle and dot decoration, deep splayed legs, nice reddish brown patina, 7 3/4" tall. From the collection of Ivory Lega Figures purchased by the consignor from the Collection of African Art of Andre' J. Navez. Mr. Navez acquired these from 1965-1966, while he was working for the State Department and living in Bukavu, Kivu Province in eastern Congo. They were brought to the US in 1967 and comply with the pre-ban African Elephant Conservation Act. Letters from Mr. Navez included. Estimate $1,000-1,500
