Lot 213: British Short Land “Brown Bess” Flintlock Infantry Musket With Correct Triangular Bayonet

British Short Land “Brown Bess” Flintlock Infantry Musket With Correct Triangular Bayonet. Manufactured at Dublin Castle. This model typical of muskets used by English troops in the American Revolution. Tiny government proof marks on barrel. Lock is marked “Crown/GR” in front of hammer and “Dublin/Castle” behind it. Faint indecipherable writing on the left stock face – possibly regimental markings. Lock functions correctly. Bore is dark but not pitted. Brass furniture. Both sling attachments missing. The front 11 inches of the stock has been very skillfully replaced, possibly in the time of use and the repair is practically invisible. The piece has been very lightly cleaned and has a very pleasing appearance. Length overall: 57”. Barrel length: 42”. Bore diameter: .77”. Triangular bayonet fits on musket and is marked on both the shank and the blade with the British broad arrow property mark. The number “60” (regiment?) is on the shank. Length overall: 21 ½”. Very nice patina.

Price Realized: $4,500
